Sweet Night (Scene)

Sweet Night (Scene)

Honey is such a sweet, lovely name. It makes you want to taste a sticky yummy treat. Savor a quick, refreshing relief from an unwanted encounter or a bad memory.

So, I thought of the same thing.

It was a cool dark night. No twinkling stars to see or a bright moonlit way to walk comfortably. The sky’s covered with clouds again. The road was still muddy from the early evening’s rain. My shoes got stuck a couple of times already, and the soles of my feet are beginning to turn to soft, wrinkled skin.

As I crossed the last bridge home, I stopped for a while. The creaking sound of the old wooden bridge gave me comfort out of the muddy path. It was a refreshing sight after a long day at work. The wind blew me soft, sweet, and swift kisses. When I reached the end of the bridge, I closed my eyes to gather all these wonderful feelings. After all, I shouldn’t bring work-related problems home. I still have time to fake a smile so my family won’t feel bothered. Worrying them is the worst. This thought gave me shivers all over, so I started slowly breathing in and out to calm myself.

I was lost in this state until a surprising warm breath touched my left ear. Startled, I slipped forward and dropped my bags. I almost tripped and fell onto the muddy path. Luckily, I got hold of something. Someone.

It was difficult to see in the dark. It made me uncomfortable then. I had to squint my eyes a couple of times, still holding the cold arm that saved me from the fall.

She moved slowly, just two steps behind. She stood right at my earlier spot. But I can still remember the hints of white and blue from her dress. There was this young girl, just about my age, standing so firmly.

I let go.

I thought I saw a smile.

“You scared me!”

I quickly grabbed my bags. My hands felt the sticky mud that covered half of my bag.

Shit! Calm down. You can’t let her see your expression. Smile.

“I didn’t hear you coming. Are… are you going to town?

I looked up at her, and she nodded.

“Well, then. It’s dark, would you want to walk together?”

This is a piece I am currently working on. Would you like to read the rest?

I am still trying to finalize whether to make this as a short story or keep up on creating different series per week with a continuous storyline but from different character perspectives. Which one do you think would be better?
